Silvermines GAA host annual memorial hurling tournament

SILVERMINES GAA club will host an 11-a-side hurling tournament in Dolla GAA grounds on this Saturday May 17th in memory of a former club member, Gerard Grace. This year the participants will be Castletown (Laois), Loughmore-Castleiney, Templederry Kenyons, Portroe and the hosts Silvermines.

The Gerard Grace Memorial Hurling Tournament is organised every year in memory of the former Silvermines player who lost his bravely borne battle with cancer in 2014, and will see the five clubs compete for the Gerard Grace Memorial Cup.

The idea for the senior hurling tournament was first mooted a number of years ago among a number of former team-mates of Ger’s and it has become a constant fixture in the GAA calendar of Silvermines GAA Club ever since.

This year the tournament will commence at 1.30 pm. Matches will be 15 minutes a half with an unlimited amount of subs allowed.

There will also be some fun events organised for children on the day to test their hurling skills and accuracy and all are invited to what promises to be a fantastic afternoon's entertainment.

While there will be no entry fee on the day, a bucket collection will take place with all proceeds raised going towards raising funds for the North Tipperary Hospice.
